Templates are (1) editable bare-bones formats to make pages with and (2) long-form text-blocks that can be uniformly applied to many different pages without having to edit each page. The first type of template makes it easy to start a new page on the wiki, and the second kind of template is good for adding navigation blocks, content warnings, notices, and other standardized elements useful to many pages.
