Kidnapping

A Recollection of My Own Kidnapping: By Isamu Koyama

~I'd stopped in the city, in the old building pitied, and scouted the man of the store.~

~Where lures made for fishing and lines, not for stitching, attracted the men from offshore.~

~A fisherman's plight is intriguing, but sluggish. To young ones it may seem a snore.~

~To a keeper of lore it's inviting, providing a plot hook that one can't ignore.~

~This rundown old shack had housed this said hack, and rack upon rack of his stack...~

~Of tools made for fishing, for folks who've been wishing to reel in those fish who keep ditching.~

~"Isamu my boy, I swear it's no ploy. With your trust, I swear not to toy."~

~"I swear it, that day. When the storm came my way, a siren had lead me astray."~

~"A woman of beauty, divinity, and grace, yet others will say there's no trace."~

~"On my honor, I saw her. I know she was there. Yet when I returned, I soon left in despair."~

Isamu Koyama, the Ultimate Storyteller

~"If you don't believe me, I feel that is fair, but if you'll stay longer I've one more thing to share."~

~"While the storm thundered down, I cast out my line. I'm a fisher, the weather's no reason to whine."~

~"Well my hook had hooked something, so I reeled it in quick. This here's the part that always gives me a kick."~

~"Two clam shells connected by strings I recovered. I realized the siren's own chest they once covered."~

~"So while others may think that my mind is not right, I will never deny that magnificent sight."~

~Credibility’s slim, but why let that bother? It's the experience he had I intended to honor.~

~Every word, exaggeration, every gesture, expression. I captured it all, for future recollection.~

~Upon my departure though, I felt a small prick. In the back of my neck, I could feel something stick.~

~I pulled out a dart, as the strength left my body. As I fell to the ground, I could feel someone stop me.~

~"Let's play a game, with poison and knife, where the Ultimate Storyteller wagers his life."~

The Lorekeeper

Isamu's talent provided a rather unique benefit. His player was given 20 potential plot threads to follow, which they ranked by how interested they were in them. In the lead-up to the game, the player was slowly given the results of tugging on these threads, in the forms of long stories, limericks, exposition, etc. The threads he had to choose from were:

  • A bear on a train
  • A lost puppy protecting a kitten
  • The best sushi in all of Japan
  • A bloody mop
  • A mugging
  • The long-nosed child
  • A trip to the convenience store for a new light bulb and a bento
  • A gravestone bearing your own name
  • The laughing fortune teller
  • The ship which doesn’t exist in a harbor that was never built owned by no one
  • The Wikipedia page for Sigore Langley’s album “Jump To Venus”
  • A washed up corpse
  • A grieving mother
  • An American comic in a dumpster behind a convenience store in South Korea
  • An abandoned bakery
  • A killer’s last meal: A barrel of lemons
  • The original tale of missing Ultimates
  • A meeting between two assassins
  • Cries from below a bridge
  • A loud crash from outside your tent

Only half of these threads were explored, and they can be found Here

Tainted Love

Every character in KG16 had a terrible secret known only to them and Benjamin Sakamoto. Isamu was no different:

Isamu’s first kiss was so bad, he actually had to leave the state the next day: You had been spending the day with a curry chef and his daughter, exploring the life of a chef. Apparently, you had caught his daughter’s eye while there. When she went to kiss you… Well, you’d been eating a lot of curry while there. Your lips connected, and you let out a powerful fart. You fled the state the following morning.

Out of all the secrets, Isamu's was certainly on the more mild end. Embarrassing, but nothing worth killing ever. So if a deep secret wouldn't motivate him, then what would?

A Masochist's Motive

Along with secrets, every KG16 character had an ideal motive. Under certain stimuli, they would feel highly motivated to kill, and would receive a number of benefits to do so.

Ideal Motive: Witnessing a brutal execution: If you see a killer suffer a tremendous amount of crippling pain from an execution, it’ll stick in your head. Surely, you wouldn’t kill just to experience something similar… right?

Fun fact: Bokkun's a fucking idiot and forgot to trigger this motive after Jokku Kamori's execution, the most suitable execution to set off this ideal motive.

Game Statistics and Mechanics

Isamu is a strong character, having the 4th highest strength and 2nd highest Toughness (Defense/Constitution) of the KG16 cast. His investigation stat was also very high, sitting in 2nd place right below Rin Seki. To offset this, Isamu had one of the worst banes Bokkun could think of. In the context of a killing game however, that bane was actually stupid, and Bokkun fucked up and made Isamu too strong. Damage tends to come fast, unexpectedly, and only in lethal doses when it comes to mutual killing games. So Isamu was pretty much just a tank with a big brain, his only disadvantages being the presence of characters even stronger than him, and the lack of a strong boon or talent.

Name Type Description
Ultimate Storyteller
(KG16)
Talent You’ve picked up quite a bit of useful info by keeping an ear to the ground for gossip, rumors, and anything of interest. You’ll start with more information than most, and will be more successful in investigations than most others. (Ultimate Storyteller Investigations)
Endure
(KG16
Boon When it comes to pain, you’re sort of a professional. As a result, it’ll take a lot to bring you down, or even to break a limb. Poisons are less effective against you too, and your body will quickly build up an immunity after the first usage. Your toughness can only protect you against so much though, and things such as gunshots or major blood loss can still result in you passing away.
Masochist (KG16) Bane Gareth suffers from a rather dangerous medical issue. A birth defect has rendered his heart extremely unstable. Any disruptions could indefinitely hurt or destroy it. Any type of attack to the chest has a high chance of leaving Gareth completely out of commission.
